The picturesque, 'old-world' fishing village of Combe Martin offers its own small beach and rocky cove (access from property via steep footpath, 100 yds, or road, 1 mile), as well as a range of quaint local shops, tearooms and pubs. Also well worth a visit is the pretty village of Berrynarbor, just ½ mile distant; situated in a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, it oozes charm and provides the visitor with tearooms, a village shop/post office and an old inn (children welcome), all scattered among its traditional thatched cottages. For more extensive facilities, head for the popular harbourside town of Ilfracombe, offering boat and fishing trips to Lundy Island, secluded coves and beaches along its coast, as well as its own theatre, a swimming pool, restaurants and shops. Miles of golden sands await at the resorts of Woolacombe, Saunton and Putsborough – popular with surfers and beach lovers. Alternatively, head away from the coast and explore the wild open moors of Exmoor National Park (5 miles), where wildlife abounds and horse riding is readily available. Exmoor Zoological Park and Bossington Wildlife Park, within 10 miles. NT properties of Arlington Court, Watersmeet and Dunster Castle easily accessible.
